Mass Effect 2
Mass effect 2, bioware's second edition to their deep space adventure RPG (Role Playing Game) is
back better than before with your ability to carry over your choices from the first game to completely
change the story in the second game. However if you have not played the first game don't worry it is not required
to understand the story or to understand the background stories of the previous game. While the last game story
is very large the short references fill in all the holes making sure you understand what is going on around you.
At the start of this game you are introduced to a new threat "The Collectors" who are an alien
race with improved weaponry and bio-weaponry that can wipe out entire colonies. This brings captain
Sheppard's new mission given to him/her, "Stop the collectors!". The free roam style of game play
in this game aims at being required to explore planets but probing them for discrepancies or materials to
upgrade your weapons, or you can focus on the main story which requires you to go from place to place putting
your team together and finding out about the collectors with well placed hic-ups along the way to keep the
story in its place.
If you have ever played gears of war the combat and view of the world is very similar, the 'Over the shoulder'
view can take a little to get used to as it is not a popular view mode. However being able to poke around corners
and over cover gives it a nice effect on the combat. The weapons vary in this game and when you get your first
bio-weaponry the first thing that comes out of your mouth is "Awesome!" while you dominate
anything that gets in your way.
While you enjoy shooting things up the down side to when you enter certain parts of the story you become locked into a linear zone where you can not stray from the course. There is no such thing as jump or exploring, the down side to the massive game is that there is alot of parts that stray out for longer than is enjoyable. Sitting in the one area killing lots of guys that just keep coming gets boring after the first 50, also with the repeater ammo that keep respawning while being good it just never gives you those rockets or grenades for your heavy guns.
Great game by bioware great for a rainy day with a decent 8 hour main storyline or if you choose
to scout out all the planets for extra missions or upgrades 8+ hours.
Overall i rate this game a 8/10.
